CASTRO LOBATO
(Mexico City, 2003; lives and works in between Venice, Italy and Paris, France)
Castro Lobato is a multimedia artist. His practice revolves around the act of bodily domestication. Being a politicised and socialized body, matter that can be modelled, educated and manipulated to a fictitious normativity. A constructed norm that, quoting Judith Butler, lies in its performativity in the repetition of itself and ready to yield.
Lobato positions himself in the systems of capitalist falsification, in those educational processes of construction of knowledge and tradition that produce a margin in which to place categories of bodies and subjectivities. He explores the need for a reappropriation of the wild as an escape route, of the wilderness as something that happens in the interstice between belonging and not belonging, a possibility of claiming. A being in the wilderness in an attitude of bodily contraction, a gestural action of subversion, questioning of the body itself, resistance. Contracting towards the capitalist fallacy, in a hand-on-hand revolt.
